I know on some vehicles you can use a wire and hardwire the computer to make the check engine light flash to figure out the problem, but how do i do this on my escort.

The archetecture is either EEC-IV or OBD I, either way you should be able to take the vehicle to an autozone or O’Reily’s. they will loan you for no charge a tester to read the codes. No need to search for the blinking light remedy. That is a pain as you can’t tell when one code starts and the other ends.

I’m having computer problems with my Emac machine. I cannot even load Windows XP anymore, it tries to load windows 2000 with the error message “Insufficient resources to load windows”, or something similar to that. I need to know how I can reformat my computer without logging on to windows XP users. I could use some help badly. I can’t even load into safe mode, last known good configurations won’t even work.

Use GParted. GParted (Gnome Partition Editor) (source 1) is a boot CD that can perform various disk tasks, including reformatting to the NTFS format.
How to write GParted to a CD/DVD:
1. Download the GParted .iso file from their website.
2. Follow the instructions on the tutorial (source 2) on how to burn an ISO image onto a CD. It’s not the same as Windows’ “Write these file to CD”.
How to boot GParted from the CD:
1. Once you have the ISO image burned onto the disc, put the CD into the computer that you need to reformat and reboot. Most computers should boot directly into the CD. GParted is a miniature Linux boot CD. You’ll boot into some command line things, just follow the instructions and don’t be intimidated. You’ll get into a normal window soon (source 3).
2. If your computer doesn’t boot into GParted (you will know if your computer loads Windows XP), you’ll have to change your BIOS settings to load from your CD before your hard disk. There’s some good tutorials on how to do this safely (source 4).

Then, the GParted GUI is very simple to follow and you should be able to reformat your disk. You can then reboot your computer and run the Windows XP install CD cleanly.
